Live Moment Advertising: Selective Activation for Sports

Updated September 8, 2026 · StreamLayer
What is live moment advertising?
Live moment advertising activates an advertising experience around a selected event in live programming. In sports, that may be a scoring play, a milestone, or another relevant game state. StreamLayer Moment Ads use interactive nonlinear placements while the program continues. Moment-based and event-driven advertising describe the same general approach.
Which signals can identify an opportunity?
Configured sports data, timing rules, and playback markers can identify candidate moments. Context may include the team, player, score, period, or a defined milestone. The signal is only the starting point: the publisher still decides whether the moment is eligible for advertising.
Why should activation be selective?
More triggers do not necessarily create a better product. Publishers should set pacing, frequency, suppression, and closing rules to protect high-interest programming and prevent repeated exposure. A touchdown can be a relevant sponsor opportunity without requiring an advertisement after every touchdown. Editorial and viewer-experience protections should take priority.
What is the role of Moment Intelligence?
StreamLayer Moment Intelligence is designed to qualify candidate opportunities using live context and route them into publisher-controlled activation logic. It is an additional signal source, not a replacement for the Trigger Engine, SSP, DSP, or auction. Confirm the capabilities enabled for a specific deployment instead of assuming every described signal or workflow is included.
How does the ad reach the viewer?
StreamLayer SGAI uses server-side orchestration and client SDK rendering. The host app provides the advertising view and controls video resizing for presentations such as Side Bar and L-Bar. Existing video delivery continues. Contextual relevance, creative readiness, and the viewer’s playback position all matter to the timing of the experience.
How does this differ from a pause ad or an SSAI companion?
A live moment ad is tied to selected programming context. A pause ad follows the viewer’s pause action. An Interactive SSAI companion is synchronized with an existing stitched video ad. Each has a different trigger and should have its own eligibility, creative, closing, and reporting rules.
How should publishers test value?
Start with one sport, a limited set of triggers, defined placements, and representative CTV devices. Extend to mobile and web after validating the experience. Compare eligible opportunities with actual renderings, interactions, net revenue, and viewer response. Track suppressions and delivery errors as well as successes. An example scenario is not proof of campaign performance; publish results only with the measurement context and approval to use them.
